PMC-RAZY!

Today was fun. I wish every day was like today, minus the getting home at 10:45 pm part. But even that wasn't so bad, because I got to teach PMC (which I love to do!) and make chain-maille jewelry. Actually getting to work on jewelry (not just "store" stuff) is such a joy.

Today I taught PMC to Natalie, a very creative gal and aspiring graphic designer. She's going back to college at RIT pretty soon, otherwise we'd be friends (it's true, I even asked her). Look at what we made!

I love the pieces she made. Love love love. The ones that are like bubbles were inspired by a bead I didn't even know I had in the store! Check out Natalie's lovely work. If you'd like to see it in person, check her out at her mothers store, Caz Fabrics in Cazenovia! (I wonder if it's officially "Cazenovia Fabrics?") I'm sure she'll be wearing it every day. She also works at Commercial Art, but I'm not sure if she's out on the sales floor. Shout-out to Commercial Art, by the way, who sent several people my way for PMC.

I also made some more ginkgo leaves, and right on time, because the "Ginkgo Lady"'s husband was in today. The Ginkgo Lady is a woman who came in during the "Treasures of Manlius" event and admired a ginkgo necklace I'd made of PMC. She admired it for quite a while, but didn't buy it, deciding she would send her husband it to get it. She returned a few weeks later, after determining she really wanted it, and I'd sold it. I promised to make her another, and I did. The next visit from she and her daughter, she again decided not to buy it, since her anniversary was coming up, and her little girl promised to "bring daddy in". That ginkgo necklace sold last Saturday, and today, the little girl brought in her daddy, as promised, and I didn't have a necklace! So I showed him what I'd made, and took his number so I can call him when the necklace is finished.

The day was relatively slow in terms of customers, but holy phone! It just kept ringing and ringing, and everyone was asking about PMC! My "taster" class is filled for this month, and my full day class is already full for next month, even with the date TBD! So for those of you dying to try, I'll be doing another "taster" in September (don't have a date yet) and for those of you who are super serious about it, you'll have to wait until October! If the interest continues, I would be happy to offer two full-day classes per month, but September is a little hectic for me. I've got my Bronze Clay class in VT, a trip to NYC to buy beads and try on wedding gowns (not me, my cousin), a wedding in PA, and starting my intermediate silver smithing class! I only have two free Saturdays, one of which will be the "Discover PMC"

Then Christy came in to teach Chain Maille. Look at this "before" photo. Christy cut all these jump rings by hand! Such a trooper.
The class was a lot of fun, and I hope to have Christy back for more. She was a great teacher, and I'd venture to say a bona-fide new friend! I hope to have all the ladies who took the class back for more. Bobbi is a riot, she wanted to make a chain-maille bikini until she realized the work entailed. It's possible she was kidding ;) Bobbi is new to the area, and I've enjoyed her visits to the shop and our conversations. Two more new-comers, Zoe and her mom Linda just moved here from Switzerland. This is the second class at DFB for Zoe, and she'll be in the PMC taster. I enjoyed their company, and need to start practicing my french, they both have such perfect accents! And "the other" Christy (to differentiate from the one teaching the class) was a sweet new contact as well. I think she'll be back, and I look forward to seeing her. Putting the chain-maille together was somewhat challenging to start, but as we warmed up, the conversation turned to hair, homes, a "love shack" and bras. It's such fun to get groups of women together! By the end of the night, I felt closer to everyone.

I'm really enjoying this "job"!
