In Memory of Gonzo

It's been ages since I wrote. I wonder if people are still reading?

I finally finished my Reliquary piece for Gonzo. I've been contemplating this piece since he died, and it has been cathartic to plan it out, sketch ideas, start working on the piece, and finally complete it. Of course, I burst into tears as soon as it was done. This has been my way of coping. I was careful with this piece, spent a lot of time on it. And I love it. The reliquary contains a little of his hair, some fuzz from one of his tennis balls, and some soil from where he is buried. Now I feel like I have a physical way to bring him with me wherever I go, even though I always hope he is there is spirit.

I also made this piece (before the reliquary was finished). It is a little more simple, but what I love about it is that the two disks hit against each other and make a sound like Gonzo's dog tags. The front disk has his image, and the back disk has his name and some of his nicknames. I've been wearing both necklaces as once. I really love that dog! I still miss him too. The process of making these pieces has helped tremendously but it's still been hard to go back to "normal".

Next stop Tucson. The posts from there should be more upbeat. Stay tuned..
