Yesterday I took the day off work to...well...to work! I have two memorial pendant's I'm in the process of making and I have a deadline on one of them. They are not the type of piece I like to work on in the store, as I like to be more mindful when I am making them. There are constant interruptions at the shop. The phone rings, customers come in and inevitably, as soon as I open a package of clay, a customer comes in who wants to design something, and my clay languishes and dries out before I've rolled it once. So, needless to say, I am able to work uninterrupted in the comfort of my own home, with my dogs at my feet. (Arrow was very interested in the PMC yesterday, so I had to shut him out of the room eventually. I was afraid he'd try to eat it!) I am happy with the way the pieces are coming along, and I hope they will bring comfort to the owners of Leia the lovely blonde lab, and Mouser the tuxedo-face kitty.
In the afternoon, Carlton and I took a trip out to the antique festival in Bouckville. The "main event" isn't until this coming weekend, but there are tons of tents and stalls set up already. I found some vintage French watch crystals which I hope I will be able to use in future memorial pieces. They are slightly domed, which may present a bit of a challenge in fitting them, but I think the end result would look great, and might even help to magnify the contents a bit. I also found a few more copper book plates...great for texture! One of the ones I picked up has this old fictional map of the ocean, complete with sea monsters and many-sailed ships. Very cool. There is such a plethora of golden oldies at the show, it makes my head spin. I want to outfit my whole house in unique and well-made vintage and antique pieces.
It was nice to have an extra day off. I could get use to that. I probably shouldn't...but I could.
