New news is good news

It's been a while. I have had a few people ask "are you gonna blog tonight?" Now that I know people are reading this, there's a lot of performance anxiety. But I finished the newsletter and class calender today, so I figured I should write a post as well. I want to include some of the photos of the upcoming classes! I'll add more as I take them.

First up is the Peyote Wrapped Cabochon by Tamyra Gates. That's on August 7th. The nice thing about this class is that Tamyra is bringing kits, so I just have to be there! It will be nice to learn the Peyote Stitch. It's a popular one.
Next up is Discover Precious Metal Clay, taught by yours truly on Aug 12. I've really enjoyed teaching this class thus far, though I have to say the pieces I've made during it have been sub-par. I think I'm concentrating more on making sure the student gets something out of the class, and putting less effort into the pieces I make. I've aslo discovered frustration anew when the piece brakes before it's fired, usually when I'm trying to sand it. That doesn't happen when you saw silver. Not to say I'm a total convert, but I do love to saw.

Then I'll be teaching Copper Enameling on Aug 14th. Enameling is kinda what got me into this in the first place. I was doing some wire wrapping, then had the idea of the enameled dog-paw pendants when I worked as a dog-whisperer. Actually, I just worked in a doggy day-care, scooped a lot of poop, and did some basic-obedience training. A whisperer I was not.

I think I took my first enameling class 11 or 12 years ago. I don't feel old enough to claim that, but it's true. I think it was 1997. Maybe 1998, maybe only 10 years than. But at any rate, a while ago. Around the same time, I took my first basic silversmithing class. I'm taking a refresher right now, but I'm proud and excited to offer the first basic silver-smithing class at my very own store! It's a two-parter. Part one is Aug 19th (my mom's birthday). Crap, I just realized that. We'll have to do a nice dinner on the weekend. Anyway, during part one, students will practice sawing, piercing and filing on a piece of copper.

During Part two on Aug 21st, they will put those newly acquired skills to work on a copper or silver pendant. I just made a pendant myself that I am completely enamored with. I don't mean to toot my own horn (though I have been known to toot) but I just love this nexklace. So this is "saving the best for last"...
Voila

I heart that bird pendant big time! Especially seeing it on the chain. I feel like a proud grandma sometimes when I see your stuff...like I want to pinch your cheeks and say "my little erin has come so far!" Weird, right? Kudos, anyway...I promise I won't pinch you the next time I see you.
